Important Updates from SDAD President
Transcript:

This is Tanya, President of SDAD. I have three important updates to share with you.

First, our Vice President, Ashley Cain, has resigned effective July 21st. I want to thank her for her support and contributions to SDAD. If any of you are interested in taking her position, please let me know. (Ashley Cain is moving to Ohio)

Second, I have accepted a job position in St. Paul. Although I will be working in St. Paul, I will continue to reside in Sioux Falls and will remain as President. We will schedule a meeting sometime in September, with more details to follow.

Lastly, SDAD is downsizing our storage at the Simpson building. Thanks to Scott Miller - We have already sorted everything, and a storage sale is set for June 22nd. Cash is preferred, as there is no ATM available at the Simpson building, so please come prepared. The proceeds will support SDAD.

Thank you!

Patty Kuglitsch received the Governor's Award for Outstanding Individual With A Disability
The Governor’s Awards recognize the achievements of businesses, individuals with disabilities, and South Dakotans for their contributions toward ensuring those with disabilities have equal opportunities to employment. Seven award recipients were recognized during the 2023 Governor’s Awards ceremony that was held on October 30 at the Capitol Rotunda in Pierre.

One of our Deaf community members, Patty, received her award from Governor Kristi Noem, right, and the South Dakota Department of Human Services Cabinet Secretary Shawnie Rechtenbaugh, left.

Patty Kuglitsch (Sioux Falls) was born deaf and has faced communication challenges throughout her life. She has an extraordinary record of achievements as a teacher, counselor, workshop leader and trainer, program developer, and administrator.
Patty has generated creativity, enriched people’s lives, and uplifted them to feel responsible, productive, and valuable in all areas of life. She has served on local, state, and national boards, councils, and committees. Her advocacy and educational efforts have led to improved services in multiple areas including communication, interpreter certification, employment outcomes, telecommunications, equipment distribution programs, and other services.

Thank you for your outstanding work for the deaf community of South Dakota! Congratulations from SDAD and the members!
